POSITION: We seek a colleague to join the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics (CDAE) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont, starting at the rank of a tenure-track Assistant Professor. CDAE’s mission is to support sustainable local and international community development through teaching, transdisciplinary research, and outreach that serves the public interest. We seek a candidate with a focus on applied economics and ecologically sustainable and socially responsible entrepreneurship and community development, with interests that span across our majors: Community Entrepreneurship, Community and International Development, and Public Communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES: CDAE prides itself on high quality research and teaching, engagement with students, collegiality and the collaborative pursuit of a positive sustainable future. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and maintain a competitively funded research program that aligns with the CDAE mission and the VT Agricultural Experiment Station goals and objectives, and publish their research findings in appropriate journals. Teaching, advising students and outreach responsibilities will focus on our undergraduate majors in Community and International Development and Community Entrepreneurship. CDAE is a national leader with regard to service learning and accordingly we offer unique opportunities to build service learning into teaching, research and outreach endeavors. The successful candidate will teach three to four courses per academic year (e.g., applied economics at undergraduate and graduate levels, community development, behavioral economics, consumer economics, resource economics, ecological economics, etc.). Responsibilities also include advising graduate students, and there will be opportunities to teach at the graduate level in our CDAE Master of Science and Master of Public Administration programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required qualifications include a doctoral degree in a discipline related to applied economics, entrepreneurship, and community development, some college teaching experience, productive research and publication records, and commitment to diversity and inclusion. Doctoral candidates who expect to graduate or at least defend the dissertation by summer 2018 are welcome to apply.

APPLICATION: Applicants must submit a cover letter, a curriculum vita, and a statement of interest by January 31, 2018. The statement of interest should explain how they propose to enrich students’ lives through their various academic and professional interests as well as describe their research vision and how it will contribute to CDAE’s mission. Applicants are also requested to discuss their commitment to diversity and inclusion in their cover letter. Applicants should submit names and email addresses for three professional references. References will be contacted with a request to submit their letters of reference electronically. Apply online at www.uvmjobs.com, position number 020277.
