Assistant/Associate Professor of Agricultural and Natural Resources Communication

The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences (CSS) at Washington State University seeks a dynamic, motivated, and collaborative leader/educator to develop an innovative agricultural and natural resources communication program. Applications are invited for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Agricultural and Natural Resources Communication. This is a 12-month, permanent, full-time, tenure-track/tenured faculty position to begin July 1, 2022 (negotiable) at the university's main campus in Pullman, Washington.
Responsibilities: 1. Leading and executing a vision for Agricultural and Natural Resources Communication curriculum and development. 2. Developing courses for a new undergraduate minor in Agricultural and Natural Resources Communication. 3. Teaching 2 to 3 courses per semester. 4. Collaborating with faculty in WSU Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program to build capacity in using communication tools to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of complex agricultural, food, environmental, and natural resource issues. 5. Engaging in scholarly activities related to curriculum development, instruction, learning tools, and/or Extension programming. 6. Engaging with industry to develop internship pipelines and career opportunities for undergraduates. 7. Providing advising support for the Agricultural and Natural Resources undergraduate minor.
Required Qualifications: 1. Earned Ph.D. in Agricultural Communication, Environmental or Natural Resources Communication, Science Communication, Communication, or a closely related discipline at the time of hire. 2. Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality undergraduate courses using relevant instructional approaches, pedagogy, and technology. 3. Demonstrated potential for effective curriculum development. 4. Demonstrated potential for creating outstanding outreach/education programs for a wide diversity of audiences. 5. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies. 6. Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. 7. For appointment at the Associate rank, applicants must additionally have a history of high-quality instruction, curriculum development, and/or outreach/education program development related to Agricultural and Natural Resources Communication.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Demonstrated effectiveness in post-secondary curriculum development. 2. Evidence of scholarly research activity, publications, and/or extramural funding. 3. Experience with Cooperative Extension, especially related to agriculture, natural resources, and/or 4-H youth development. 4. Experience in journalism, mass/digital media, public relations, marketing, news and television broadcasting, audio/video production, or a related field. 5. Experience in applied agriculture and/or natural resources.
