    The Department of Nutrition and Food Studies is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Food Studies to begin in the Fall of 2021. This position is part of an ambitious Invest Syracuse Cluster Hire Initiative in the broad area of Energy and Environment. As an integral part of this investment, Syracuse University is seeking to enhance research, collaboration, and strengthen competitive grant applications in the focus area of socioeconomic policy, and/or ecological implications of changes to food and agricultural systems from anthropogenic global warming. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in an agricultural discipline, social science, ecology, or other relevant discipline with a food systems orientation. The candidate should also have an interdisciplinary academic background and be adept at quantitative or mixed methods analysis.

    The successful candidate will complement current faculty expertise in human rights, labor in the food system, agricultural policy, food and racial justice, agriculture and the environment, science and technology studies, and food enterprise management. It is anticipated they will be able to teach the undergraduate course on Climate Change and the Food System and develop a graduate course on Agriculture and the Environment; however, the mix of assigned courses will depend on the expertise of the candidate.     Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to:

    1. Pursue a program of research with the potential to secure sponsored funding;

    2. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses and advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and,

    3. Engage in service activities in the department, college, and university as well as the community and profession.

    The Food Studies program offers B.S. and M.S. degrees, which have a social justice and anti-racist orientations. We seek a candidate who shares this approach and perspective.
